Student Mission History Weekend! part 1

One of my favorite weekends of the IT Project was the History of Student Missions weekend. It was so amazing. I'm going to try and explain what it was and what we did. 

First we traveled about 5-6 hours from Philly to the middle of Massachusetts to a little college called Mount Hermon College. This is where in 1886, the Student Volunteer Movement began. It started out as a conference led by the renowned D.L. Moody. Over 250 students from all over the U.S. came to the middle of nowhere Massachusetts to be challenged by the Bible and by Moody. Through this conference, 100 men out of the 250 decided to give their lives to bringing Jesus where He was not yet known. They were called, fittingly, the Mt. Hermon 100. 

The men of this conference did not want this passion and vision they had gained to remain with them, though. So, they organized a team of men to bring this passion and vision to the thousands of other college students across the country. Thus, the Student Volunteer Movement spread through the U.S. and Canada and students everywhere were devoting their lives to Christ's global heart. 

It was so awesome to see where students just like me were radically challenged over a hundred years ago. Not only were they challenged, but they responded. These men all took up their cross and dedicated their lives to something so much bigger than worldly possessions and objects. It really challenged me to question if I was really giving my all to my King.  Needless to say, this visit gave me a lot of direction and purpose for my life.
